LA County Library Foundation was established in 1982 to solicit corporate and private funding and create public-private partnerships that support LA County Library. It is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization.

The Foundation’s support plays a critical role in helping LA County

Library provide the continuing education, self-development and lifelong learning programs that meet the needs of and enhance the quality of life for the 3.5 million people living in Los Angeles County. It is a unique and diverse population, encompassing an area of more than 3,000 square miles, 50 cities, unincorporated areas, and communities where more than 60 languages are spoken.

The Foundation concentrates its funding on four priorities:

- Cultural Resource Centers

- Family Place Program

- Homework Help Program

- Teen Healthy Living Project

The Friends of the Library matching grants program, funded by the foundation, regularly funds small projects to support the local Friends groups.

The LA County Library Foundation is governed by a board of directors committed to ensuring that supplemental funds are available to continue the programs provided by LA County Library. Comprised of business and community leaders, the board solicits tax-deductible donations from individuals, foundations and companies to expand services both inside and outside the library walls.

By raising additional dollars, the Foundation not only helps ensure the financial health of LA County Library but brings more services to our communities.
